Accredited and sophisticated investors

Some opportunities are limited by law to accredited investors. Here is what the definitions mean, so you know where you stand before we talk.

Accredited investor

Meet one or more

Your individual income has been $200,000 per year or more for the past two years, and you expect that to continue.
You are married with combined income of $300,000 per year or more for the past two years, and you expect that to continue.
Your individual or joint net worth exceeds $1,000,000, excluding your primary residence.

Sophisticated investor

Knowledge and experience

You have enough knowledge and experience in financial and business matters to evaluate the merits and risks of the investment on your own.
